The Danger of Stress
Note : I take no responsibility for anyone who gets stressed after reading this.

Usually an immune response is triggered as soon as body detects an infection or viruses invading the body. Stress makes our immune systems less effective because it actually triggers an immune response itself!
Lots of stress >> lots of immune response >> so when the body ACTUALLY faces infection or viruses...our body's ability to fight infection drops drastically. Therefore, if you have a cut somewhere or a bruise, and if you're a stressed person, so instead of taking a day to heal, it may take 8 days more!

Experiments they carried out
*caregivers are the ppl who care for a person who's been ill for a very long time. So it's you if you care for your parent/spouse who's been chromically ill and it is you who is facing a lot of stress.

Experiment no.1
  • Kiecolt-Glaser(the researcher) and her colleagues administered flu vaccines to caregivers and control subjects and compared the numbers of antibodies—protein s involved in immune reactions—that the two groups produced in response.
  • Findings: Only 38 percent of the caregivers produced what is considered an adequate antibody response compared to 66 percent of their relaxed counterparts, suggesting that the caregivers' immune systems weren't doing their jobs very well—and that the stress of caregiving ultimately put them at an increased risk of infection.
Experiment no.2

  • Kiecolt-Glaser and her colleagues afflicted a group of caregivers with small arm wounds using a tool dermatologists use to perform skin biopsies.

  • Findings: The caregivers' wounds took 24 percent longer to heal than wounds that they had afflicted to non-caregivers.
Experiment no.3

  • Kiecolt-Glaser and colleagues performed another experiment in which they produced tiny lesions in the mouths of—quite appropriately—11 dental students at two different points in time. Once was during their summer vacation, when they were relaxed, and once was during the fall, several days before a difficult exam.

  • Findings: The lesions done before the exam took from two to eight days longer to heal than the summer wounds. For some subjects, the exam wounds took nearly twice as long to get better.

Avoid stress and those people who cause stress! Because Cancer is caused by weakening of immune response, stress can cause Cancer and several heart diseases along with diabetes!
